[Press release from REINERTSEN AS 27.10.09]
REINERTSEN AS has secured a contract with TCM DA on Technology Center Mongstad (TCM), which includes fabrication and installation in connection with the construction of a testcenter for the CO2 capture. TCM will initially test two different technologies for capturing CO2 from two flue gas sources with different CO2 content.
The contract value is 400 million NOK.

The contract was signed in Oslo Tuesday 27.10.09, and includes the fabrication and installation of tie-in systems to the flue gas sources, pre-processing systems for the flue-gas and installation of electrical and control systems as well as several other smaller systems. Project management and planning will be performed at REINERTSENs main office in Trondheim. The contract work will be completed in April 2011.
- With this contract REINERTSEN takes a significant step in its development. The contract will require employment of extra personnel, "says Thomas Reinertsen, in REINERTSEN. Mongstad TCM is a very important contract for REINERTSEN AS locally, nationally and internationally. The contract provides REINERTSEN's department in Bergen opportunity to strengthen local position towards StatoilHydro’s new MMo-contract in 2010. REINERTSEN expand its installation staff in the Bergen region with around 100 professionals. Internationally, this contract will allow further expansion and development of REINERTSEN’s services in Murmansk, Russia, and is therefore an important step in the preparation to take a major role in the Shtokman development project. REINERTSEN NWR in Murmansk will expand with 100-150 new employees during the coming year.
The contract is therefore a strategically important to REINERTSEN.
StatoilHydro is responsible for the project execution for the test center and has signed the agreement on behalf of TCM DA. The partners in TCM DA are Gassnova SF, StatoilHydro ASA, and A/S Norske Shell. The goal of the testing is to qualify technologies for large-scale CO2 cleaning of exhaust gas based on the most cost-effective solutions. Development of technologies for CO2 capture in connection with energy production is considered to be very important in the efforts to reduce emissions of harmful greenhouse gases.
Technology Center Mongstad is the largest test facility of its kind in the world, with an annual capacity to handle up to 100000 tons of CO2. The experience gained by the operation of the technology center will in turn form the basis for a full-scale facility.
